Ketch is a Death Doom and Sludge band founded in 2013 .

history

Ketch were joined in spring 2013 by drummer David Csicsely from the Black Doom band Stoic Dissention , singer Zach Salmans from the doom metal band The Flight of Sleipnir and Jeremy Winters from the grindcore band One Per Coffin together with guitarist Clayton Cushman and the bassist Dave Borrusch founded. The band name goes back to the executioner Jack Ketch . With their first self-published publications, the group achieved lively underground fame, whereupon Stu Gregg from Aesthetic Death Records became aware of the group and offered Ketch a contract to reissue the previous material. The self-titled EP and album The Anthems of Dread were combined under the title of the album. Both releases are lyrically based on horror film classics such as Rosemary's Baby , Wicker Man and The Last Man on Earth . The newly compiled Aesthetic Death Records album has also been redesigned and re- mastered by Esoteric's Greg Chandler .

style

The music played by Ketch is mostly described as a mixture of Sludge and Death Doom, which reaches into the funeral and which draws on stylistic elements from Dark Jazz , Black Metal , Stoner Doom , Post-Metal and Hardcore Punk . Comparisons are made to Indian , with references to Converge , Yob , EyeHateGod , Old Man Gloom , Buzzov • en , Grief , Noothgrush and Neurosis .

The vocals vary between the growling typical of Death Metal and sludge as well as screaming borrowed from Black Metal . The guitar playing also indicates the influence of Black Metal due to tremolo riffs . The rhythm is meanwhile often extremely slow and refers to the Funeral Doom, while the drumming was recorded particularly hard and is more closely related to Doom Metal.
