Arvada is a city in Jefferson County in the US state of Colorado , United States , with 106,433 inhabitants (as of 2010). The area of the city is 85.1 km².
The city goes back to gold discoveries in 1850. From 1858 gold prospectors and shortly afterwards also farmers settled in the area. The railway was built around 1870 and Arvada, named after the brother-in-law of one of the settlers there, became a stopping point.
Today Arvada is one of the ten largest cities in the state of Colorado.
Arvada is located northwest of Denver and is to become the end point of a new light rail line in 2025 as part of the FasTracks project.
Arvada is twinned with Kyzylorda in Kazakhstan .
