Kevin Sharp
Kevin Grant Sharp (born December 10, 1970 in Redding , California - † April 19, 2014 in Fair Oaks , California) was an American country singer , author and motivational speaker .
Life
Sharp made music from an early age. In 1989 the doctors diagnosed him with bone cancer and did not give him a long life expectancy. After chemotherapy , the cancer regressed, and Sharp recorded demo tapes. In 1996 he signed a record deal with Asylum Records. His debut album Measure of a Man was released in November 1996, and the single Nobody Knows extracted from it stayed at the top of the Billboard country singles chart for four weeks . The album was awarded gold for over 500,000 CDs sold. In 1997, the top 5 hits She's Sure Taking It Well and If You Love Somebody followed .
With his album Love Is from 1998 and the singles Love Is All That Really Matters and If She Only Knew , which were released from it, Sharp could no longer build on his initial successes. In the following years he continued to perform as a singer, but also worked as a motivational speaker and spokesman for the Make-A-Wish Foundation . He processed his experiences with cancer in 2004 in the book Tragedy's Gift: Surviving Cancer - The Kevin Sharp Story . A musical comeback attempt in 2005 failed. Sharp died in April 2014 at the age of 43 from complications following gastric surgery.
