Perpetrator

The day after the attack, authorities announced that the suspect was the British-born 52-year-old Khalid Masood . Masood was born Adrian Elms on December 25, 1964 in Dartford . In 2000 he got into an argument with the owner of a café, demolished his car and then injured his face with a knife. He was sentenced to two years in prison. Three years later, Elms injured another man in the nose with a knife and was imprisoned again for six months. In 2004 he married; the couple had three children. From 2005 to 2009 he worked as a teacher in Saudi Arabia . From 2011 to 2013 Elms lived in Luton , then in London and, since 2016, in Birmingham . All addresses where Elms and his family had lived since 2011 were searched by the police after his attack. When Elms converted to Islam and changed his name to Khalid Masood is unclear.

More suspects

One day later the terrorist organization Islamic State (IS) claimed the attack for itself via the IS-affiliated propaganda platform Amaq . The authorities arrested eight people at six addresses in the course of the investigation.
