The Khaptad National Park is a protected area in the Sudurpashchim Province in western Nepal .
history
The national park was established in 1984 on the initiative of the regional holy man Khaptad Baba . In 2006 a buffer zone was also designated.
geography
The national park extends over the four districts: Bajhang , Bajura , Achham and Doti . It has an area of 225 km² and ranges from an altitude of 1400 meters to 3300 meters. Lake Khaptad Daha is located in the north-eastern part of the park. The climate ranges from the subtropical climate to the alpine climate at higher altitudes.
Flora and fauna
The main landscape consists of moors, steep slopes and streams with 567 recorded plant species. According to the most recent explorations in the park, there are 23 species of mammals , 287 species of birds , and 23 species of amphibians and reptiles .
Well-known mammal species in the park are the leopard , the collar bear , the wild dog and the musk deer . The most important bird species include the Himalayan pheasant , the peregrine falcon and the Bengal vulture .
