The Langtang National Park is located in the north of the Nepalese administrative zone Bagmati , about 50 km north of the capital Kathmandu .
The Langtang National Park, founded in 1976, covers an area of 1710 km² in the Central Himalayas . The national park extends over parts of the following districts: Nuwakot , Rasuwa and Sindhupalchok . In the north, the national park borders on the Tibet Autonomous Region of the People's Republic of China .
The Langtang Khola river valley and the adjacent mountain ranges are located in the protected area . In the north, the Langtang Himal massif with the 7,227 m high Langtang Lirung extends in the main Himalayan ridge . Other peaks in the Langtang Himal are Kimshung , Dragmarpo Ri and Yala Peak . In the lower southern mountain range there are, among others, the following peaks: Dorje Lhakpa ( 6966 m ) and Naya Kanga ( 5846 m ). The rivers Melamchi Khola , Indrawati and Balephi Khola have their source on the southern slope . In the northwest of this mountain range lies the mountain lake Gosainkunda, which is revered as a sanctuary . Below this is another mountain lake, the Bhairabkunda . In the east of the national park another mountain range runs along the Chinese border in a north-south direction, which is assigned to the Jugal Himal . This also includes the striking 6427 m high Langshisha Ri .
