Khoma (formerly Koma ) is a progressive / post-rock band from Umeå , Sweden, founded in 2002 .
history
The three founding members Jan Jämte (vocals), Johannes Persson (guitar) and Fredrik Kihlberg (vocals, piano) met in the nineties in the Swedish hardcore metropolis Umeå . B. International Noise Conspiracy , Meshuggah , formerly Refused , in college. After a few years of jamming, they began to work seriously on their music in 2002 and eventually recorded an EP that was released for a limited period after two more years. The tentative 1000 copies of Tsunami had success despite the unconventional symbiosis of progressive metal , rough rock riffs and the post-rock comparable to the newer Mogwai and was then re-released with an edition of 1000 CDs.
Since all members of the band are involved in various other projects (including Cult of Luna , The Perishers ), the progress of the band was sluggish even after the motivating first success. The second album, which contains ballads as well as rough metal riffs and is generally more text-heavy, was only released in 2006 under the major label Roadrunner Records , despite a lot of material and energy, and found buyers and support from critics in Germany as well as Sweden and Great Britain .
idealism
The band is not only critical of society in the lyrics, all three members express liberal , feminist , anarchist and socialist approaches and stand up for them in various organizations. A distanced perspective on media presence is of great importance in their commitment , which they sometimes sharply criticize for being excessive and imbalance, but also respect the advantages. No clear statements have been published about their attitudes, but they did provide a detailed and commented list on the individual topics on their homepage.
