Kid Dussart (born April 11, 1921 in Liège , Belgium , † November 25, 2002 ) was a Belgian boxer . He was European champion among the professional boxers in the lightweight.

Career

Kid Dussart made his professional boxing debut at the age of 17. On June 1, 1938, he beat his compatriot Kid Conard in his first fight in Liège after four rounds on points. In the first few years of his career he fought almost exclusively in the couch and won almost all of these development fights. On August 10, 1941, he won the Belgian bantamweight championship title in Liege with a victory over defending champion Joe Cornelis. At the end of 1942 he had to resign this title because of weight problems, but he was in the spring of 1943 by a victory over Joe Preys Belgian featherweight champion and on April 2, 1944 in Paris by a victory over Jo El Houssine also Belgian lightweight champion. Kid Dussart kept these two titles until the end of the war.

After 1945 he fought preferably in Belgium and France and on March 29, 1947 got the chance in Brussels against the Frenchman Emile Di Cristo to box the European championship in lightweight. Kid Dussart took advantage of this opportunity, won this fight after 15 rounds on points and was thus the European lightweight champion. He could not enjoy this title for long, because on May 21, 1947 he was defeated in Brussels in his first title defense against the Italian Roberto Proietti by technical knockout in the 13th round.

In 1948, Kid Dussart u. a. three times against the French world class boxer Ray Famechon . He lost two of these fights and won once. On July 5, 1949, he boxed in London against the new European lightweight champion, the Englishman Billy Thompsson for the title again and won it for the second time because Thompsson had to be disqualified for looking up. In his next fight, however, it fared like two years ago. He lost his title in the first defense on December 17, 1949 in Brussels by a point defeat after 15 rounds back to the Italian Roberto Proietti.

In 1950, Kid Dussart attempted to achieve success in the United States. But he did not succeed because he lost to world number boxers Paddy DeMarco and Billy Graham . For this he won the Belgian welterweight championship on December 8, 1951 in Liege by knocking out Emile Delmine in the ninth round . He lost this title a little later to Harry Mino. On August 6, 1953, Kid Dussart tried again to become European welterweight champion. But he lost in Nice against the French Gilbert Lavoine by knockout in the fourth round. But he was again Belgian champion. On October 18, 1957, he defeated in Liege middleweight Pichard Bouchez after twelve rounds on points.

In the last few years of his career, Kid Dussart also played many fights against high-ranking international opponents. He won u. a. against the French Mickey Laurant , Idrissa Dione and Jean Ruellet and the later English European welterweight champion Wally Thom , but suffered defeats from Charles Humez and the Germans Peter Müller (boxer) and Hans-Werner Wohlers . Kid Dussart fought his last fight as a professional boxer on March 22, 1958 in Liege with a point victory over the Algerian Abdelkader Ben Buker.

Kid Dussart was a professional boxer for over 20 years. During this period he fought over 150 fights, which he survived without major health damage. He was Belgian champion in five weight classes (bantam, feather, light, world terweight and middleweight).
