Map with all coordinates: The Wapet Road , also called Kidson Track , is an outback track in the north of the Australian state of Western Australia , in the Pilbara region . It connects the Great Northern Highway west of the Sandfire Roadhouse with the Canning Stock Route and the Jenkins Track in Kurawaritji .
Origin of name
The name of the street is due to the fact that it followed the early expedition routes of West Australian Petroleum Pty. Ltd. (WAPET) follows.
course
The Wapet Road branches off about 45 km southwest of the Sandfire Roadhouse from the Great Northern Highway (N1) to the east-southeast. It then essentially follows the southern edge of the Great Sand Desert , where it merges into the Canning Basin . After 508 km to the southeast through the desert, the track meets the Telfer Mine Road coming from the west-northwest on the west bank of the salt lake Lake Auld and continues for another 109 km to the east-southeast until it comes to the Kunawarritji aboriginal settlement Canning Stock Route meets.
There is also a refueling facility there. The subsequent Jenkins Track leads to the Gary Junction settlement approx. 55 km southeast .
The Wapet Road leads through the cultural area Western Desert , more precisely through the settlement area of the Martu .
Some sources give different routes for Wapet Road and Kidson Track. Others do not distinguish between the two streets.

Despite the arduous path through the desert, bird watchers in particular, but also others, use the track.
