The Kifisos ( Greek Κηφισός , also Kifissos Κηφισσός, ancient Greek Κηφισσός Kēphissos ) is a river in the Athens plain in Attica, Greece .

It rises on the saddle between the mountains Parnitha and Pendeli north of the city of Kifisia named after him, then flows in a southerly direction past the western edge of Athens and flows into the Bay of Faliro , where it meets the border between Piraeus and the Athens suburb of Moschato forms. On the way there, its course was used extensively for artificial irrigation of the fields in ancient times.

Nowadays it is largely built over with an expressway ( Leoforos Kifisou, part of the national road 1 Thessaloniki-Athens-Patras). Renaturation has often been discussed, including with reference to a formerly similarly built-up river in Seoul.
