Kilmoluaig ( Gaelic : Cille Mo Luaig for "Moluags Church") is a scattered settlement consisting of only a few houses on the Scottish Hebridean island of Tiree in the Council Area Argyll and Bute . It is located in the northwest of the island about two kilometers from the coast south of Loch Bhasapoll , the largest lake on the island. The Tiree Airport is located three kilometers to the southeast at Crossapol . The name of the village is derived from Gaelic and means "Church of Saint Moluag".

Surroundings and sights

To the east of the village is possibly the site of a monastery, which Saint Columban is said to have built after the founding of the monastery of Iona on Iona in 563. It was probably a monastery. A fire is recorded from the year 673. As the record shows, the facility was in operation at least into the 11th or 12th centuries. Today there are no more remains, so the location is not secure.

In Kilmoluaig there are two monuments from the highest Scottish monument category A. The residential buildings 3 Kilmoluaig and 13 Kilmoluaig are small, one-story houses from the early 19th century, which are built in the traditional style of the Hebrides . Their roofs are thatched.
