Kim AR dinghy cruiser

The Kim-Jollenkreuzer (Kim-Boot) is a sailing boat made of plastic ( GRP ) with a cabin and ballast sword , which was manufactured from the 1970s by Hermes-Plastik Bootsbau GmbH and later Kim Boats GmbH in Saarbrücken . The type Kim C with a round structure was later followed by the types Kim A and Kim AR as a forward decker with an angular wide deck. About 2000 of the Kim-AR were built between 1979 and 1999, after which the production of Kim boats was discontinued.

The cabin boat offers (according to the brochure) space for two adults and two children. The dog bunks are very narrow. The boat has a draft of one meter with the ballast sword lowered, and about 30 cm with the sword drawn up. The boat is 5.5 m long (5 m at the waterline), 1.72 m wide, the sail area is 13 m², total weight when ready to sail 330 kg.

Ballast sword

Kim dinghy cruisers were offered with various ballast swords. Standard equipment was a sword with 80 kg, which consists of a metal plate with a GRP sheathing and also has a lead bomb. The lead bomb is missing from the 50 kg version. The draft when the sword is raised is specified as 35 cm and when the sword is lowered it is 1.1 m.

The sword is hauled in with 18 turns of a winch on the sword case in the cockpit.

The manufacturer calls the 80 kg version of the ballast sword, which can be almost completely folded into the boat hull, as a lifting keel .

The Kim-MAX is the big sister of the Kim dinghy cruiser and was built from 1982.
