Kim Jung-jun (born August 26, 1978 in Goryeong , Gyeongsangbuk-do ) is a South Korean badminton player . He is amputated on both thighs and starts in Parabadminton in the starting class WH2 in singles, doubles and mixed. Kim aims to participate in the 2020 Summer Paralympics .

Athletic career

Kim Jung-jun lost both legs in an accident at work in 2005. He has been playing parabadminton since 2007 . In 2013 he took part in the Badminton World Cup for the disabled in Dortmund and won the individual title by defeating his compatriot Kim Kyung-hoon . Both together won the double title in the final against the Englishmen Gobi Ranganathan and Martin Rooke . In the badminton competition of the Para-Asian Games 2014 in Incheon , Germany, Kim Jung-jun again won gold in the singles final against Kim Kyung-hoon. In the mixed semifinals he and Son Ok-cha lost to the Thai duo and title winners Jakarin Homhaul and Amnouy Wetwithan . At the Parabadminton World Championships 2015 in Stoke Mandeville there was a new edition of the 2013 final, and Kim Jung-jun again won the gold medal. In the all-South Korean double-final, Kim Jung-jun and Lee Dong-seop lost to their opponents Kim Kyung-hoon and Lee Sam-seop.

In the singles of the Badminton World Championship for the disabled in 2017 in Ulsan , Kim won the title for the third time in a row against Kim Kyung-hoon. In doubles, Kim and Lee Sam-seop defeated the team Choi Jung-man and Kim Sung-hun . In mixed it was enough with Kang Jung-kum through a semi-final defeat against Lee Sam-seop and Lee Sun-ae only for bronze. In the badminton competition of the Para Asian Games 2018 in Jakarta , Kim Jung-jun defeated Chan Ho Yuen from Hong Kong in the singles final . In doubles, Kim and Lee Dong-seop lost to the Chinese Mai Jianpeng and Qu Zimao . At the Badminton World Cup for Disabled People 2019 in Basel , the same opponents faced each other in the finals in singles and doubles. Kim won the singles and lost to the Chinese in doubles.
