Kim Leine

Kim Leine Rasmussen (born August 28, 1961 in Bø (Telemark) , Norway ) is a Danish-Norwegian writer .

Life

Kim Leine was born in 1961 to Danish parents in Norway and grew up there in a Jehovah's Witness community . It was not until he was seventeen that he came to Copenhagen to live with his Danish father and his friend. Leine was sexually abused by his father, which he processed in his autobiographical debut novel Kalak . In 1982 he passed the Abitur at Sortedam Gymnasium in Copenhagen. Leine then completed training as a health and nurse , which he completed in 1987.

In 1990 he went to Greenland with his young family to work as a carer. He used this experience in his novel Tunu and also in his first work, Kalak . His severe drug abuse is also discussed in both books . His novel Valdemarsdag is based on the true story of his grandfather Erik Rasmussen. In 1938, out of jealousy and deliberately, he murdered his boss, friend and lover of his wife, who was separated from him. Profeterne i Evighedsfjorden is a historical novel set in Copenhagen , Greenland and Norway between 1785 and 1815 and based on the true story of the Habakkuk movement . It tells the life story of the fictional pastor Morten Falck, who grew up in Norway, went to study in Copenhagen and then went to Greenland as a missionary. The book has already been translated into Norwegian, Dutch, German and Italian and has received numerous literary prizes.

Leine writes in Danish and translates his books into Norwegian himself. He lives in Copenhagen with his second family .
