The Children's Railway Krasnoyarsk ( Russian Красноярская детская железная дорога , Krasnojarska detskaja schelesnaja doroga ) is a narrow-gauge miniature railway in the Russian city of Krasnoyarsk . The line was opened on August 1, 1936 as the first children's railway in Russia and is still in operation today. It is a structural unit of the Krasnoyarsk Railway (Russian Красноя́рская желе́зная доро́га , Krasnoyarskaja schelesnaja doroga ), which in turn is part of the Russian Railways (RŽD) .

history

After the children's railway from Tbilisi, which had already opened in 1935, the railway was opened on August 1, 1936 as the second in the Soviet Union . At first it had a track width of 305 mm (scale 1: 5). It was retraced to the unusual gauge of 508 mm in 1962. Initially, the route in the central park of the city of Krasnoyarsk was 816 m long, and since the extension in 2007 the length of the now ring-shaped route has been 1,300 m.

Before the renovation, the train operated between two terminal stations : Tupikowaja ( Тупиковая ; originally Stschastliwoje detstwo , Счастливое детство ) and Pervomaiskaja ( Первомайская ), which have since been demolished. The annual transport volume in 2007 was around 30,000 to 40,000 passengers, most of them children.

When converting the two old stations have been completely demolished and two new stations were built: Jubileinaja ( Юбилейная ) and Metschta ( Мечта ).

The children's railway has educational and cultural functions, among other things: young people are trained there. Every year around eighty young people were trained there, and since 2006 up to one hundred and twenty young people, so that there have been around seven thousand male and female graduates during the company's 70th anniversary. One of the first train drivers was Alina Baidakova ( Алина Байдакова ), who passed her exam perfectly at the beginning of the season and then worked as a train driver all summer. However, there have been no female train drivers since 1956.

Rail vehicles

The first steam locomotive with the number 01 of the children's railway was built in the training workshop of the Krasnoyarsk ФЗУ plant ( фабрично-заводского училища ). It was a 1.5 t model of a three-axle steam locomotive with the wheel arrangement С у on a scale of 1: 5. This locomotive was used regularly on the children's railway from 1936 to 1961. Now it stands as a monument on a pedestal in the central park of Krasnoyarsk.

The Junost ( Юность ) rail vehicle was built on the chassis of a Moskvich-401 in Krasnoyarsk. From the outside it looked like a diesel locomotive of the SŽD series ТУ3 . The subsequently built Mechta and Jubileiny ( Юбилейный ) rail buses are based on the Moskvich-412 in the style of the ЭР9 series electric railcars .

In 2007 the old diesel locomotive was replaced by the conversion of a Toyota minibus.

The Krasnoyarsk Children's Railway is unique because of its unusual gauge and the locally built rail vehicles, as most other children's railways use 750 mm gauge and industrially built rail vehicles.
