King Baggot (cameraman)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

King Baggot (born August 15, 1943 as Stephen King Baggot ) is an American cinematographer for motion pictures in the 1980s and early 1990s.

Live and act

The grandson of the actor and director King Baggot (1879-1948) and son of the cameraman Robert King Baggot (1914-1965) initially worked as a cameraman for the ABC broadcaster KABC-TV. In that capacity, Baggot was one of the first men to arrive at the 1969 crime scene of the Manson Family murder of Sharon Tate and four other people. The recordings of the massacre made by Baggot went around the world.

Baggot, who was married in May 1968, switched to cinema in 1979 and initially filmed the elegant and flavourful moral image of high society A man for certain hours as a simple cameraman (so-called camera operator) ; the film was the breakthrough for young Richard Gere . Shortly afterwards, King Baggot made his debut as chief cameraman (director of photography or cinematographer).

In this capacity he filmed a number of artistically less ambitious, conventional entertainment films, especially comedies. But Baggot was also behind the camera for harder subjects like action and horror films. He was also responsible for the recordings of the Madonna video " Burning Up ". As early as 1993, King Baggot withdrew from the cinema business.
