Archie and Harry - You can not let it ( Tough Guys ) is an American film comedy of Jeff Kanev from the year 1986 . The main roles were played by Burt Lancaster and Kirk Douglas .
action
Harry Doyle and Archie Long are released from prison after 30 years. You had been convicted of the last train robbery in the United States in the mid-1950s.
Doyle is going to a retirement home. He refuses to eat the senior-friendly, but qualitatively questionable food, with a reference to the fact that he still has all of his teeth. Archie gets some temporary jobs, but customers and employers overwhelm his patience. Colleagues from back then are already in retirement age, the regular bars from back then have mostly been demolished or no longer the same.
Sergeant Yablonski, who arrested the two of them in the 1950s for robbery, pursues and annoys the two senior gangsters again. His motto: "Once a thief, always a thief." Leon B. Little, a hired killer who has been working on her since then and is now rather short-sighted, is a nuisance.
Doyle and Long learn that the train, the "Gold Coast Flyer", which they once raided, is now to be retired. The official welfare is annoying, after all you have learned your trade. They attack the train again on its last journey.
Their young probation officer helps the two out of a mess in the subsequent shooting. However, Doyle and Long decouple the car with him so that the officer is not robbed of the future.
The train arrives in Mexico after a chase and only stops after the border, where they are arrested by the Mexican police.
Reviews
Roger Ebert wrote in the Chicago Sun-Times of October 3, 1986 that the film would be better if the two main characters were more realistic. Some supporting characters are unnecessary.
Rita Kempley praised the portrayal of Eli Wallach, the collaboration between Burt Lancaster and Kirk Douglas, and the direction of Jeff Kanew in the Washington Post October 3, 1986.
The lexicon of international films judged: “The thin story only serves as a vehicle for two big stars. Burt Lancaster and Kirk Douglas do away with the stereotypes of the script in their own way. "
The editorial staff of prisma.de criticized the lack of originality of the plot and praised the two main actors.
Awards
The song They Don't Make Them Like They Used To , sung by Kenny Rogers , was nominated for a Golden Globe Award in 1987 .
The German Film and Media Assessment FBW in Wiesbaden awarded the film the rating “particularly valuable”.
backgrounds
The film was shot in Los Angeles , California . It grossed $ 21.46 million in US cinemas .
The band Red Hot Chili Peppers , which was still relatively unknown internationally at the time , played itself in a club scene.
The steam locomotive that can be seen in the film is the GS-4 of the " Southern Pacific " with the number 4449, also known as Morning Daylight because of its orange-red color dress. The 4449 is still under steam as a museum locomotive and makes many special trips for railway fans.
