Kintore ( Gaelic : Ceann Tòrr ) is a village in the Scottish Council Area Aberdeenshire . It is located about five kilometers southeast of Inverurie and 18 kilometers northwest of Aberdeen on the south bank of the Don . Kintore is directly connected to the trunk road network by the A96 . The Town Hall of Kintore is classified as a monument of the highest category A in the Scottish monument lists.

history

After the residents had excelled in the fight against the Picts , the Scottish King Kenneth II granted Kintore the rights of a burgh in the tenth century . In 1190 the rights were supplemented by a Royal Burgh and renewed in 1506. Between 1821 and 1881 the population increased from 312 to 661. After the village had grown to 835 inhabitants by 1971, twenty years later there were already 2028 people. Last in 2011, the population was determined to be 4476.

Kintore stone

The fragment of a Pictish symbol stone of 0.94 × 0.46 m made of granite was found in a garden in Kintore in 1974 and given to the Inverurie Museum, where it is kept. Worn symbols are carved into the stone. Above a Pictish Beast there is a square symbol, while underneath is an arch that probably belongs to a mirror. The square has opposite at the corners, bottom left and top right, semicircular widenings each with two "armpits" with central raised points. Inside is a smaller square with similar but inward corner motifs, offset from the outer ones.
