Gross Rosenburg Church
The Evangelical Church of Groß Rosenburg is located in the district of the same name in the Saxon-Anhalt city of Barby . It probably originated in the 12th century.
History and architecture
The appearance of the Groß Rosenburger Church comes from a conversion of the former Romanesque church building, which is believed to have been built in the 12th century. The renovation took place around 1580, during which a spacious baroque plastered building with a retracted choir was created. From the previous Romanesque building, the groin-vaulted chapel (today the winter church) and the lower part of the west tower have been preserved. The tower was originally connected to the nave by a double arcade . The medieval bell storey was changed and raised in the neo-Gothic style at the end of the 19th century . Restoration work was carried out in 1911 and 1951. While the nave has a tile-covered gable roof , the tower is crowned by a high octagonal slate point.
Interior decoration
A wooden barrel ceiling arches over the interior of the nave. Like the three-sided gallery, it is painted. A baroque altarpiece rises on the sandstone altarpiece from the Gothic period, framed by simple columns. It is framed by a Van Dyck painting showing the Entombment of Christ . The oldest item in the inventory is the font from 1584, which is decorated with a relief-like leaf decoration. The organ built in 1895 by the Wilhelm-Rühlmann-Werkstatt is on the western gallery and has 27 registers. In the chapel there is an altar made of cedar wood, and the remains of the Romanesque patron s lodge are preserved on the first floor of the tower .
