Groß Rosenburg is a district of the town of Barby in the Salzlandkreis in Saxony-Anhalt .

geography

Groß Rosenburg lies on a loop of the river Saale , immediately before its confluence with the Elbe . Groß Rosenburg, located in the Middle Elbe Biosphere Reserve , is approx. 10 km from Calbe (Saale) and approx. 13 km from Aken (Elbe) .

The district of Klein Rosenburg belonged to the former community of Groß Rosenburg .

history

The place, which was probably originally settled by Slavs , appeared in a document in 839 as "Rosburg". A large farmyard belonged to the castle (now a ruin), which is attested to in the 5th century. This “royal court” came in 965 as a gift from Otto I to the Magdeburg Mauritius Monastery (predecessor of Magdeburg Cathedral ). Rosburg was already known as a civitas in 993 .

As a fiefdom, the place with the Amt Rosenburg belonged to the Counts of Querfurt from 1136 to 1270 and around 1300 as an afterfief to the Counts of Barby from the house of the Counts of Arnstein and thus became part of the County of Barby . The Reformation was introduced in 1540 under Count Wolfgang I von Barby .

After the Earls of Barby died out in 1659, County Barby was divided . The place was as part of the Office Rosenburg as a former fief of the Archbishopric of Magdeburg to the to Brandenburg belonging Archbishopric of Magdeburg ( Wood county ). Since 1815 the place belonged to the district of Calbe a./S. in the Prussian province of Saxony . After 1945, Groß Rosenburg belonged to the state of Saxony-Anhalt. After the dissolution of the states in the GDR , it belonged to the Magdeburg district from 1952 and back to the state of Saxony-Anhalt since 1990 .

To the east of Groß Rosenburg lies the Steckby-Lödderitzer Forest nature reserve , one of the core areas of the biosphere reserve , which was designated as such by UNESCO in 1979 . In this area nature is left to its own devices; the constant alternation of high and low water has created a riparian forest landscape that is unique in Central Europe with refuges for endangered plant and animal species.

Groß Rosenburg is characterized by agriculture, gentle tourism and small and medium-sized businesses.

On January 1, 2010, the previously independent communities of Groß Rosenburg, Breitenhagen , Glinde , Lödderitz , Pömmelte , Sachsendorf , Tornitz , Wespen and Zuchau and the city of Barby (Elbe) merged to form the new city of Barby. At the same time, the Elbe-Saale administrative community , to which Groß Rosenburg belonged, was dissolved.

coat of arms

The coat of arms was awarded on October 5, 1937 by the President of the Province of Saxony.

Blazon : "In silver a green rose bush with five red natural roses growing over a red battlement wall in the base of the shield."

The talking image of the rose bush was in the previous community seals.

The coat of arms was designed by the Magdeburg State Archives Councilor Otto Korn .
