history

In 1292 Pommelte was first mentioned in a deed of donation. It can be assumed that the place was settled by immigrant Sorbs . In the vicinity of Pömmelte in 2006 a so-called circular ditch system was uncovered during excavations ( circular ditch system by Pömmelte ). It is a place of worship from the end of the third millennium BC; it is already referred to as the "Little Stonehenge ". Among other things, landfill pits and ceramic remains as well as a round building with a diameter of 115 m were found. It is possible that their construction also took astronomical principles into account . Since the rotunda, which formerly consisted of individual wooden posts, after its decay led to a change in the nature of the soil and the plants growing there over time, it was finally discovered during observation flights.

On January 1, 2010, the previously independent communities of Pömmelte, Breitenhagen , Glinde , Groß Rosenburg , Lödderitz , Sachsendorf , Tornitz , Wespen and Zuchau as well as the city of Barby (Elbe) merged to form the new city of Barby. At the same time the Elbe-Saale administrative community , to which Pommelte belonged, was dissolved.

politics

mayor

The last mayor of the municipality of Pömmelte was Thomas Warnecke.

coat of arms

Blazon : "In blue over a wavy silver shield base, three silver lilies 2: 1, each accompanied by two golden ears."

The coat of arms reflects the historical context of the place: Pommelte was founded by Slavs and has been a farming village for centuries, whose residents, in addition to keeping livestock, mainly farmed agriculture. The close proximity to the Elbe, which made the soil fertile with its regular flooding, was essential for this. In the course of the urbanization of Pommelte, three town centers or round courtyards were formed for whose existence there is empirical evidence. These facts are expressed symbolically in the municipality's coat of arms: Blue shield with a wavy shield base = Elbe; three lilies surrounded by ears of wheat (heraldic: accompanied) = three town centers or the current districts of Pommelte, Neue Siedlung and Zackmünde as well as agriculture.

The coat of arms was designed in 2007 by the municipal heraldist Jörg Mantzsch .

The colors of the former municipality are white and blue.

Transport links

Pommelte is on the road from Schönebeck (Elbe) to Barby . Gnadau train station, approx. 3.5 km away, is on the Magdeburg - Halle (Saale) line .

The Schönebeck airfield is located directly to the west of Pommelte (Zackmünde district). It is used by glider pilots, parachutists and private pilots. The ICAO code for this aerodrome is EDOZ .
