The Church of Mary Conception is a Roman Catholic parish church in Vienna's 12th district of Meidling and is located at Flurschützstrasse 1. The location on the district border with Margareten is reflected in the name of the parish Neumargareten , a former district of Margareten, which later became Meidling came.

history

After a strong population increase in this area around 1900, the building of a church and the establishment of a parish became necessary in the typical Viennese working-class district. In 1905, the first church building was built according to plans by Richard Jordan, and with it the creation of the parish Neumargareten. The church was built opposite the former Hundsturm cemetery, which is now Haydn Park .

In 1944 this first church was completely destroyed by bombs. The parish moved to a hall in the Reumannhof residential complex . 1949–53 the current church building was built according to plans by Helene Koller-Buchwieser and Hans Steineder . A bell tower that was also planned was never realized.

Building description

The hall church is furnished with large wall and ceiling paintings by Hans Alexander Brunner , which show Maria Immaculata in a halo surrounded by saints. The Stations of the Cross are also by the same artist. Behind the altar, a mural shows the Last Judgment , in front of it a statue of the Virgin Mary by Hans Freilinger from 1967. A statue of the Virgin Mary from the destroyed first church was placed in a chapel. The glass windows there are by Karl Hauck .

In front of the church is an 18th century sculpture depicting the fall of the bridge of St. John of Nepomuk shows.
