The church at Neuenhof

The Neuenhof Church is the Evangelical Lutheran church in the Neuenhof district of the independent city of Eisenach in Thuringia .

location

The church is located in the center of Neuenhof on the edge of the palace park laid out by Eduard Petzold on a high bank of the Werra . The Neuenhof Palace , built in 1863, is right next to the church .

history

As early as 1492, Neuenhof had its own parish church . The church tower , which was originally a defensive tower to protect the Werra crossing, dates from this time . The church that exists today was built in 1794 on the foundations of its predecessor.

In 1942, because of the Second World War , the church bells were removed as a metal donation and transported to Bremen for the planned meltdown. The meltdown did not take place and the bells returned to Neuenhof in 1949.

In 1965 the church received a new tower button and in 1969 a new roof. Further renovations inside and outside took place from 1990 onwards. In 1992 the tower was re-covered and the top was provided with two new wind vanes.

Interior and peal

The interior of the main room is 10.5 m long and 7.3 m wide. The sanctuary is 5.1 m long and 4.9 m wide. The Braunschweig painter Adolf Quensen designed the paintings in the interior in 1898. The large mural depicts the risen One. The gallery parapets are decorated with sayings from the Bible.

The ringing consists of two bells from the pre-Reformation period by the foundry Caspar Balthasar Melchior Lucasaus and a bell from 1684, cast by Matteus Thoner von Wantorf.

The organ dates from 1818. Since it is no longer playable, a digital organ was integrated into the old organ prospectus.
