history

inner space

A chapel of St. Martin in Valles is mentioned for the first time in a letter of indulgence from 1345. On June 5, 1462 a new altar was consecrated. On July 4, 1497 a new consecration took place; today's ship is from this time.

The Capuchins , who were active throughout Graubünden in the name of the Counter Reformation , built a new building that was consecrated on June 30, 1695. At that time the building was created as it is today. In 1996/1997 the church was restored.

description

The west-facing complex has a relatively deep choir that is turned slightly to the south. The choir is covered in two yokes with cross vaults, the nave with a barrel. Dimensions of the choir: 6.5 by 4.7 meters, the ship is 9.10 meters long and 4.75 meters wide.

The tower rises above the choir and nave and pierces the roof of the sacristy .

Furnishing

Frieze by Hans Ardüser

The high altar dates from 1698, the altar panel shows St. Martin with Anthony of Padua . The two side altars were created in 1704. The left altar panel shows a coronation of Mary, the right a Mater dolorosa ; both probably come from the monk and church painter Fridolin Eggert from Disentis. On the north side altar is a Pietà from the late Gothic period.

A row of apostles from 1593 by Hans Ardüser has been preserved on the northern wall of the nave , including red chalk inscriptions from the 18th and 17th centuries. The murals with images of the apostles date from the last quarter of the 18th century. St. Magdalena and St. Martin are depicted in the choir. The crucifix on the choir arch dates from around 1500. The choir stalls were built in the 18th century, the pulpit around 1779.
