The Weltzin church is a brick building in the Weltzin district of the municipality of Burow in the Mecklenburg Lake District . It was built in the 15th or 16th century and belongs to the parish of Klatzow in the Pomeranian Evangelical Church District .

history

In 1274, the Verchen Monastery handed over the church patronage to the Reinfeld Monastery in Weltzin and allowed the construction of a church. In 1308 it belonged to the Stolpe monastery (near Anklam). In 1644 the previously independent parish church of Klatzower was assigned as a branch church.

The current church dates from the 15th or 16th century.

architecture

It was built as a brick building , partly with field stone in the lower area . The building has a rectangular floor plan and stepped buttresses on the north and south sides. The windowless east gable is structured by panels . In the longitudinal walls of the ship , which were partially renewed in the 17th or 18th century, there are round panels. At the end of the 19th century, as Hugo Lemcke reported, there were remnants of old painting in these . These were "concentric circles with star patterns in brown color". The sloping west tower, covered with boards, has a tall eight-sided pointed helmet . The bell was cast by Schünnemann in Demmin in 1835.

Interior

The church has a baroque altarpiece into which the middle piece of a late medieval carved altar was inserted. It shows a multi-figure crucifixion group flanked by saints. The staircase to the pulpit shows the evangelists Matthew, Lukas and Johannes (Mark is missing) in three fields, the pulpit has no images. A confessional as well as choir and parish stalls are baroque. The organ gallery from the first half of the 18th century shows Christ in its fields in the middle and 14 (!) Apostles in pairs on the sides . The organ was built by Wilhelm Remler from Berlin around 1880 (?).
