The Evangelical Lutheran Church of Ugerløse ( Danish Ugerløse Kirke ) belongs to the parish Ugerløse Sogn in the middle of the Danish island of Zealand ( Danish Sjælland ). Ugerløse is 23 km south of Holbæk and 19 km north of Sorø .

Church building

The current church was built between 1875 and 1876 and consecrated on November 26, 1876. A Romanesque church from around 1150, standing on the same site, was abandoned due to its disrepair. The Romanesque brick building differs from the usual country churches on Zealand with the large tower, the two side towers and the many small towers. A smaller choir with a round apse closes the nave in the east. There is space for around 275 people in the church.

inventory

The altarpiece with the motif of the unbeliever Thomas was painted by Carl Bloch in 1881. It was loaned out 2010-2011 for an exhibition in Utah , USA. During the renovation in 1910, along with the painting of the choir arch, the Christ monogram IHS by Jens Møller-Jensen (1869–1948) was painted on the choir ceiling. The painting of the choir arch was copied for the window niches during the restoration of the church in 1991.

The late Gothic triumphal cross (around 1475) and the Romanesque granite baptismal font (1150–1200) with the ornate rim are among the oldest inventory from the medieval church. The chandelier in the choir is from around 1700, the other three and the two bronze candelabra were donated in 1884.

A beam from the old church with the faded inscription “Herren bevare din udgang og din indgang” ( Psalm 121 , 8) is set into the wall in the anteroom. There is also an offering box , probably from 1864. Two bells hang in the tower, the big one is from 1489 - the smaller one from 1676.

The pulpit from 1600 - with a canopy from 1876 - stands on four pillars from the altar of the old church. Male and female herms divide the body into five fields with images of evangelists.

The organ was built by AH Busch & Sons (Copenhagen) in 1884 and originally had eight parts . It was renovated and expanded in 2008 and now has 21 voices , two manuals and a pedal and is located on a new gallery .
