Marienkirche Grossenhain

The church district of Großenhain was a part of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Saxony that was subordinate to the Dresden Regional Church Office . He was also called Ephorie or Superintendent of Grossenhain.

On January 1, 2013, the church district of Großenhain was merged with the church district of Meißen to form the church district of Meißen-Großenhain .

The church district of Großenhain largely corresponded to the former Hayn office of the Electorate of Saxony . According to today's political division, the north Elbe and northeast Elbe parts of the district of Meißen belonged to the church district.

A total of twenty-two individual parishes, which in turn are partially amalgamated to form a parish or parish, formed the entire church district of Großenhain, which had sixty-five churches.

At the head of the church district is the superintendent , the spiritual director and leader of the church. The seat of the superintendent is Grossenhain .

Since 1888, the superintendent has been in the house of the Eckhardt Foundation together with the parish of the Marienkirche parish. At that time, the Eckhardt family owned a spinning mill in Großenhain Castle .

music

Church music and sacred music outside of church services were an important part of church life. Among the church music directors , also known as cantors for short , were well-known composers such as Paul Richard Gläser and Herbert Gadsch . The subordinate choir , founded during the Reformation in 1551, comprised several church choirs and a trombone choir . In 1996 she was awarded the Zelter badge .
