Traditional kofia

A kofia is a cylindrical hat . In a traditional kofia, the fabric is perforated to aid air circulation. The word comes from Swahili and means "hat". The Kofia is particularly common in the Muslim part of East Africa. For example, the first President of Kenya, Jomo Kenyatta, often wore a kofia.

Because of the close historical connection between Zanzibar and Oman , it is also worn in this part of the Arabian Peninsula . It is considered a casual headgear and is suitable for every day. There are many different patterns and colors, so it is rare to find two identical Kofia.

For more formal occasions such as B. traditional celebrations or family celebrations, however, the turban is worn with the Dischdascha (similar to how a tie is worn with a suit in Western culture ). In addition, the khanjar is created.
