The little church in the green is a church building in Alt Placht , Brandenburg , which belongs to Templin . It is a listed building and is located around 300 m southeast of the village.

Architecture and history

The church was built around 1700 as a half-timbered chapel of the Alt Placht estate on the site of a church from the Middle Ages. The foundations of the previous building were verified. The village of Placht fell in desolation at the end of the 15th century .

The architectural style of the church corresponds to the half-timbered buildings in northern France and is therefore attributed to Huguenots who immigrated to the region . The stands of the truss are relatively close. They have a sweeping eaves cornice . The church has a gable roof , whereby the construction suggests that it was originally covered with thatch . This was renewed after the renovation of the building. The church has a three-sided closure to the east. There is a boarded tower tower on the west side. A small vestibule is added on the north side.

View from the northwest

The church was built in several stages. The oldest part was expanded to include the tower area with its grave vault below.

From around 1970 the condition of the church deteriorated considerably. The building was marked by decay and wanton destruction. All valuable or original items such as the box locks and iron door fittings were stolen. The bronze bell from 1721 was sold in 1980 to the St. Elisabeth monastery in Berlin . In an appraisal, the church building authority stated that this "eyesore should be removed as soon as possible". Against the background of tight financial resources, no demolition measures were taken.

Damage around the church in 2012

After the political turning point in 1989 , an interest group was formed on April 7, 1990, before an association for the rescue of the church was founded on November 17, 1990 , which Pastor Horst Kasner chaired from 1997 until his death in 2011. The initiative for the renovation of the church came from a West Berlin building expert who had been associated with the church since childhood. The wild vegetation around the church was removed and parts of the furnishings that were still preserved were salvaged. The actual renovation began in 1993, financed by a sponsor and the German Foundation for Monument Protection . In addition, an AB measure was carried out, which aimed particularly at the renovation of the stone wall around the churchyard . Volunteers did other work. In a specially organized for clay building seminar , the participants adopted before the Neuausfachung the church. The seminar participants completed their work on the following weekends on a voluntary basis.

On the occasion of the 1994 harvest festival , the first service in 30 years was held in the church on October 2, 1994 . The historic bell was bought back and has been in the church tower again since Midsummer 1995. The restoration of the church was largely completed by around 1997. The organ was consecrated on April 24, 2004.

The linden trees around the church are older than the building, they are dated to a planting time around 1500. On August 6, 2012 at around 8 a.m., a windpipe hit the area of the church. Linden trees fell and large branches broke off. However, the church remained undamaged.
