Kiri Thode (born February 26, 1991 in Kralendijk ) is a windsurfer from Bonaire . He is one of the best freestyle surfers in recent years and became world champion in this discipline in 2013 .

biography

Thode comes from the Caribbean island of Bonaire, which belongs to the Netherlands . Around 1995 he started windsurfing with his cousins Everon "Tonky" Frans and Elton "Taty" Frans . In 2003, at the age of twelve, he drove his first World Cup . In the 2007 season he was able to catch up with the world's best. So he achieved fourth place in the overall ranking and the following year he was second at the events on the Costa Teguise and Costa Calma . After six second and third places in the freestyle classification, Thode was able to become world champion for the first time in 2013 by winning off Sylt . After two more top 3 placements, Thode could no longer match his high level and finished 17th in 2016 and 25th in 2017 .

Thode is very attached to his home country and only leaves Bonaire for the World Cup events and now and then for photo shoots on Maui .
