Kirk Alyn (born October 8, 1910 in Oxford Township , New Jersey , † March 14, 1999 in The Woodlands , Texas ) was an American actor who v. a. became known for his role as Superman's first performer .

Life

Alyn was the first actor to impersonate Superman and played the title role in the 1948 film of the same name as well as in Atom Man vs. Superman (1950). However, his name did not appear in the credits of the films to create the impression that he was really Superman. In 1978 Superman , he played the role of General Sam Lane, Lois Lane 's father . Kirk Alyn was also seen with supporting roles in several episodes of television series, such as B. Shannon Enlighten (1962) and Battle Star Galactica (1971).

In Hollywood he met the dancer and actress Virginia O – Brien (1919–2001). They married in 1942 and had a son and two daughters. The marriage ended in divorce in 1955.
