The Kirkaldy Spur is a rock spur in East Antarctic Victoria Land . At the northern end of Shipton Ridge in the Allan Hills , it looms north of Coxcomb Peak .
The rock spur was explored in 1964 by a team working in the Allan Hills as part of the New Zealand Antarctic Research Program . This named him after the British geologist John Francis Kirkaldy (1908–1990) from Queen Mary University of London .
