The Kirkwood Islands are a group of scattered reefs and - cliffs in the center of Marguerite Bay off the Fallières coast of Graham Lands on the Antarctic Peninsula . They are located 24 km south-southwest of the Faure Islands .
Scientists from the Falkland Islands Dependencies Survey discovered them in 1949 while traveling on the RRS John Biscoe , which was also used to survey the islands the following year. It is named after Henry W. Kirkwood (1910–1977) of the Royal Navy , who was the captain of the research vessel at the time.
