Kirsty Island is a small island west of the Antarctic Peninsula . It belongs to the Léonie Islands and is located in the entrance to Ryder Bay between Léonie Island in the west and Lagoon Island in the east.
Aerial photographs were taken during the expedition undertaken by the Falkland Islands Dependencies Survey in 1957. It served the scientists of the Rothera station as a place for marine biological studies. The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named it on September 29, 2004 after the British marine biologist Kirsty Margot Brown (1974-2003), who was killed by a leopard seal on July 22, 2003 while diving near the Rothera station .
