Kitesurf Trophy
The Kitesurf Trophy is a German competition series in the sport of kitesurfing . It has been taking place regularly between May and September since 2002. From 2002 to 2014 the Kitesurf Trophy was the German championship series. Similar to Formula 1 or the Four Hills Tournament, there are different venues. These trophy stops are usually on the German Baltic and North Sea coasts. Inland waters can also be selected as a venue if they meet the competition conditions. The competitions are held in the disciplines of freestyle, kite-cross and kite-race. A distinction is made between the categories “men”, “women” and “juniors”. For each trophy stop, a winner is chosen in each category and discipline. At the end of the entire kitesurf trophy, the overall winners will be awarded who have performed the best in all disciplines. The highlight of the Kitesurf Trophy was the German kitesurfing championship between 2002 and 2014. In 2008 it took place in Sankt Peter-Ording and in 2009 on Fehmarn. Since 2015 the "Trophy" has chosen a more show-heavy format and offers teams of three drivers the challenge to compete in the disciplines of team slalom, best trick and big air, depending on the wind. Since then, the Kitesurf Trophy has been a one-off event and national edition of its sister event, the Kitesurf Cup Sylt .
Disciplines
Freestyle
In freestyle, skill, body control, and knowledge of materials and weather are essential. A jury judges the best jumps / moves and the overall impression on the water. The kiter only has a certain time (heat), seven minutes and a certain area (contest area) available. Two drivers always start against each other. The better one goes one round.
Kite cross
The kite cross is an obstacle race on the water. Four drivers start against each other and have to complete a course made of elongated buoys. In kite-cross, skill and speed have to be combined.
Kite race
When it comes to kite races, the most important thing is speed. In the pure racing series, all drivers start at the same time and complete a triangular course.
German championship
The tour stop of the Kitesurf Trophy in St. Peter-Ording was at the same time the competition for the title of German champion until 2008. Each participant must be a member of a club recognized by the German Sailing Association (DSV) (e.g. local sailing club) and a class association recognized by the DSV (e.g. GKA or DWSV). Another requirement is participation in at least one previous kitesurf trophy competition. Kitesurfers who do not meet these requirements are allowed to start, but are not counted for the German championship. You can only get points for the overall ranking of the kitesurf trophy. Since 2009 the points of all previous competitions have been added up, which results in an overall winner. Then that's the German champion.
