The Kitovyy Strait is ( English ; Russian Пролив Китовый Proliw Kitowy , German 'whale road' ) is an 800 m wide strait on the coast of the East Antarctic Enderbyland . It runs between the Thala Hills and the offshore McMahon Islands .
Aerial photographs were taken in 1956 during the Australian National Antarctic Research Expeditions and in 1957 during a Soviet Antarctic expedition . They named participants on the latter research trip. The Antarctic Names Committee of Australia transcribed this designation in 1972 in a transcribed partial translation into English.
