The McMahon Islands are two small, rocky and up to 60  m high islands off the coast of the East Antarctic Enderbyland . They are located 800 m north of the Thala Hills and are separated from them by the Kitovyy Strait .

The Australian National Antarctic Research Expeditions (ANARE) aerial photographs from 1956 were used for their mapping. An ANARE team visited them in February 1961. The Antarctic Names Committee of Australia named them after Francis Patrick McMahon, who, as the logistician of the Australian Antarctic Division , had led several expeditions to Macquarie Island and was deputy leader on some expeditions to Antarctica .
