Kitzeberg is a district of the municipality of Heikendorf on the east bank of the Kiel Fjord in Schleswig-Holstein .
history
Towards the end of the 19th century, the development of this former forest area near the water began as a villa colony. The acquirers had to buy at least 2,000 square meters of land in order to obtain planning permission. After the resulting place was also supplied by its own light and power station in 1904, one year later Kitzeberg advanced to become a privileged place of residence for wealthy Kiel society. In 1920 Kitzeberg came with other communities to the community Heikendorf.
The Theodor Niemeyer's villa, acquired by the Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel , has been used as the Kiel Institute for Oceanography since the 1930s . During the time of National Socialism, lecturers' camps (" Kitzeberger Lager ") took place here; among other things, a number of constitutional law teachers gathered here in 1935 under the direction of the Kiel professor Ernst Rudolf Huber . The institute was completely destroyed in one of the air raids on Kiel on July 24, 1944 and was never rebuilt there.

Kitzeberg is located directly to the north, bordering the municipality of Mönkeberg on the eastern side of the Kiel Fjord. The district road 51 leads through the village, about 500 m to the north is Heikendorf. Directly to the east is Schrevenborn, about 2 km southeast of the town of Schönkirchen .
Worth seeing
- Located in a wooded area and founded in 1902, the Kitzeberg Golf Club with 18 holes is worth seeing due to its tradition.
- From the Kitzeberger Bucht you can hike south to Kiel and north to Laboe on the Fördewanderweg .
- Opposite the Kitzeberger Bucht is the Holtenau lock of the Kiel Canal .
