Kiuser enclosure

The Kiuser Gehege ( Danish Kjus Skov ) is a 33 hectare forest area located 1.5 km west of Kius in the fishing region in northeastern Schleswig-Holstein . As a state forest , the Kiuser Gehege is owned by the State of Schleswig-Holstein. Politically, the forest is part of the municipality of Ulsnis in the parish of the same name, but directly adjacent to the municipalities of Taarstedt and Steinfeld . In the Danish time the forest belonged to the Schliesharde . To the southwest is the group of houses Kiusballig ( Kjusballe ). The forest, located at a height of between 20 and 30 m, consists mainly of beech , ash , alder and Japanese larch . The stands are mostly middle-aged and small-scale older trees. Sometimes there is a considerable proportion of lying dead wood . The 4.5 km long Schelmkärgraben ( Skelkjærgrav ), which runs further west as the border between the Taarstedt municipality and the Steinfeld and Loit municipalities, collects the water from the wood . The Kiuser Gehege and the 25 hectare farm forest Akebyer Holz ( Ågeby Skov ), which is adjacent to the municipality Taarstedt to the north, are the largest forest area in the wider area.

The Kius enclosure is designated as an FFH area and, as part of the Schlei region, part of the Schlei Nature Park .
