The Kjerkeberget (also Kirkeberget and Kyrkjeberget ) is a 630.8  moh. high hill in Norway .

It is the highest point in the province of Oslo and lies on the border between the municipalities of Oslo and Lunner in the province of Viken . Store Sandungen Lake extends south of the mountain, and Katnosa Lake in the northwest. The saddle height of the Kjerkeberget is 37.8 m, the dominance over the next higher mountain is about 2.7 km. At the top of the mountain there is a refuge that can be seen from afar.

The name of the hill can be translated as Kirchberg . The first part of the name, kjerke , stands for church . Its spelling and pronunciation comes from the local dialect. In Bokmål the correct name would be kirke and in Nynorsk kyrkje . The second part of the word represents the indefinite form of the word mountain . The Kjerkeberget therefore joins several other mountains in Norway, which all have names like Die Kirche or Kirchberg , due to their visual similarity to churches .

During the Second World War , the hill was used by the Milorg resistance organization as a landing point for parachute jumps . On October 4, 1942, the first landing took place by Milorg members Tor Helliesen, Jan Allan, Ruben Larsen and Johannes S. Andersen .
