Klaas Smit
Klaas Smit (born November 11, 1930 in Volendam , † February 20, 2008 in Edam ) was a Dutch football player .
During his career, Smit played for FC Volendam , Alkmaar'54 and DWS Amsterdam . The left half-forward was the first goalscorer in paid football in the Netherlands; on August 14, 1954, he scored the 1-0 goal in Alkmaar '54 against the Venlo sports club in the first game of the newly established professional league of the NBVB. He scored another goal in the 3-0 victory for Alkmaar; Henk van der Sluis contributed the third goal . In total, Smit scored 56 goals in his 225 league encounters, 44 of them in 100 games for Alkmaar and 12 in 125 games for DWS.
