Klara Weise (née Stock , pseudonym Clara Cron ; * November 20, 1823 in Magdeburg , † July 18, 1890 in Strasbourg ) was a German children's and youth author and wrote primarily for girls.

Life

Clara was born as the youngest of three sisters on November 20, 1823 in Magdeburg. She spent her childhood in a sheltered environment. Her family introduced her to culture and art at an early age. When she was 13 years old, her mother died. After finishing school, Clara began training as a teacher at her father's request. After passing her final exam, she moved in with her father as his carer and companion. Clara celebrated her first literary success when she took part in a literary competition organized by the Stuttgarter Musterzeitung and won first prize with her little novel. At this time she also gave herself the pseudonym "Clara Cron". Then she devoted herself more and more to her writing. In 1873 she married the Strasbourg merchant Wilhelm Weisse. Nine years later her husband died and she moved to Oberkirch . She lived there for five years until the first signs of a spinal cord disease became apparent and she moved back to Strasbourg. The disease progressed more and more so that she was forced to go first to the room and then to the bed. From then on she lived for another seven weeks until she died on July 18, 1890. Clara is buried next to her husband in the Helen Cemetery in Strasbourg.
