Class representative

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A class representative is the representative of a school class and thus part of the student body . He is - usually together with one or two deputies - at the beginning of the school year for half a year, a full year or even for two years democratically elected by the entire class from among its members . The voting mode varies depending on the state; so it may be that the class representative is chosen in an open or secret ballot . In exceptional cases, it is also possible for the class teacher to appoint the class representative . Part-time students in vocational schools, on the other hand, choose a daily speaker , as they are often only at school one or two days a week.

Competencies

The tasks of the class representative include representing the interests and concerns of the class vis-à-vis the class teacher and other teachers, as well as helping with the organization of excursions and activities (outside of the classroom). He also serves as the point of contact for students in the event of problems within the class and in conflicts with teachers. Furthermore, he is a member of the student council and thus represents the interests of the students, also towards the entire school and the school management . In some federal states, class representatives also belong to the class conference . In some federal states , the class representative is entitled to one lesson per month for class-internal matters, important announcements and voting. In many schools, only the class representatives can apply for and vote for the office of student representative (i.e. that only the student council votes on a student representative).

Regulations in the federal states

North Rhine-Westphalia

The class representative is an organ of the student council (SV) and prepares the monthly SV hour from grade 5 onwards. The class representative takes the place of the class representative in courses and the year-old representative in levels.

Rhineland-Palatinate

In Rhineland-Palatinate, the election of the class representative takes place in secret. If all eligible voters agree, an open election can also take place.

Brandenburg

In Brandenburg, two class representatives and two deputies are elected per class. The election management is incumbent on an election officer who is elected in an open vote and who has to keep an election protocol.

Because the election supervisor cannot be elected for the position, the class teacher is particularly recommended. The election will take place in secret, if not all voters agree otherwise.

The class representatives are members of the student conference and therefore perform its duties and represent their class in the same. Their term of office is two years.
