The Klassikerstraße is a holiday route in Thuringia .
It leads through important cities of the Weimar Classic , such as Eisenach and Weimar , through the Thuringian Forest and through Erfurt , Jena , Meiningen , Ilmenau and Rudolstadt .
Cities on the road
- In Eisenach , the birthplace of Johann Sebastian Bach and Ernst Abbe , sights are the Wartburg , the Lutherhaus , the Georgenkirche and the Reuter Villa, as well as a city palace and the Eisenach State Theater.
- In Gotha there is the Friedenstein Castle, the earliest early Baroque castle complex in Germany, as well as a listed old town. The Augustinian monastery and the churches of St. Bonifatius and St. Margarethen are well worth seeing . The palace garden is also worth a visit.
- In Erfurt the Augustinian monastery as well as the Krämerbrücke and the Mariendom are worth seeing. There is also a pretty beautiful old town here.
- Weimar became the European Capital of Culture in 1999 and is partly supported by UNESCO. In Goethe's time it was the cultural center of the country where the Weimar Republic was proclaimed. The Duchess Anna Amalia Library , the German National Theater , Schiller's house and Goethe's house , Bauhaus Museum , Belvedere Palace and the city church of St. Peter and Paul are all worth seeing .
- The university city of Jena , a center of the optical industry, is particularly interesting for its 127 m high office tower, other architecturally interesting quarters and a botanical garden.
- Many buildings in the Renaissance style and a porcelain industry are attractive features of the city of Rudolstadt , but the Paulinzella monastery ruins, the Schillerhaus, the Kochberg moated castle and the Heidecksburg are also tourist attractions.
- In Ilmenau there is a Goethe and a glass museum , as well as a Goethe house and some magnificent buildings from the time as a spa and bathing resort.
- Arnstadt has a very old old town, Gleichen Castle and Wachsenburg Castle , two large churches and a doll town.
- In Meiningen are the castles Elisabethenburg and Landsberg , the Museum of Literature Baumbach house, Meininger Theater and a watchable English Garden.
People like Johann Wolfgang von Goethe , Friedrich Schiller, Duchess Anna Amalia and Johann Sebastian Bach are closely connected to the history of classical music in Thuringia . There are therefore many monuments and museums about these people on the street.
