Klaus-Günther Mewes

Klaus-Günther Mewes (born January 26, 1954 ) is a former German basketball player and coach. He was a German national player, coached MTV Gießen in the basketball league and the German women's national team.

career

As a teenager, Mewes played in the youth department of the Hamburg TB and then in the men's team of the HTB in the Bundesliga. In April 1974 he met the Hamburg team in the final of the DBB Cup on TuS 04 Leverkusen, but they lost significantly with 61:88. From 1976 to 1978 he was a member of the Bundesliga team SSV Hagen. In the 1978/79 season he rose to the Bundesliga with the men's team of the Hamburg TB and was one of the top performers there as a playmaker. After the team had been withdrawn from the first division in 1981, Mewes acted in the second division as the HTB's player-coach. In 1971 he took part in the European Cadet Championship with the selection of the German Basketball Federation . In August 1975 Mewes made his debut in the German senior team and played a total of 18 international matches by 1977.

From 1978 to 1982 he worked as a regional coach for the Hamburg Basketball Association and at the same time completed a degree in economics at the University of Hamburg . Between 1983 and 1989, Mewes looked after the German women's national team as national coach. Also in 1983 he became a member of the teaching and coaching commission of the German Basketball Federation and was to carry out this activity for decades.

He coached the Bundesliga team of MTV Gießen from 1989 , before it came to a separation in the course of the 1990/91 season. At the beginning of the 2000s he coached the men's team of the ASC Theresianum Mainz in the first regional league as a coach, then until 2006 the Mainz women in the second Bundesliga, from 2010 to 2012 the second men's team of the Skyliners Frankfurt in the 2nd Bundesliga ProB and in the 2013/14 season the Rhein-Main Baskets in the women's Bundesliga . In addition to his coaching positions, from 1991 he worked in the office of the Hessian Tennis Association as a sports secretary.
