Klaus Baum

Klaus Baum (born March 31, 1957 in Mönchengladbach ) is a German sports scientist , physiologist and university professor .

Life

After graduating from high school , which he passed in his hometown Mönchengladbach in 1976, Baum studied from 1978 to 1983 at the German Sport University Cologne (DSHS) and additionally between 1979 and 1984 biology at the University of Cologne . From 1984 Baum had a position as a scientific assistant at the Physiological Institute of the DSHS, in 1987 he completed his doctoral thesis on the subject of "The influence of interstitial volume changes on K + -induced [K-induced] cardiovascular drives from the skeletal muscles" and in 1988 became a university assistant. In 1993 his habilitation in physiology was accepted, Baum subsequently worked as a university lecturer and from 1998 as a professor at the sports university.

He teaches volleyball , ice hockey , athletics , judo , skiing and handball at the Cologne Trainer Academy . In addition, he is the operator of the "Training Institute Prof. Dr. Baum ”in Cologne.

From 2004 to 2011 Baum worked as a performance diagnostician and fitness trainer for the German national handball team and from 2012 to 2017 as an athletic trainer for the Polish national handball team.

Baum's research focuses on the causes and prevention of back pain, specific performance diagnostics in sports games and setback games, training optimization in sports games, strength training and blood pressure behavior, cardiovascular adaptations to physical stress and trainability in the elderly.
