Klaus Heitmann

Klaus Heitmann (born July 5, 1930 in Mülheim an der Ruhr ; † December 25, 2017 in Heidelberg ) was a German Romance studies .

Life

Heitmann received his doctorate in 1955 from the University of Freiburg under Hugo Friedrich with a study on Petrarch . He completed his habilitation at the University of Marburg with the thesis "The Immoralism Trial against French Literature in the 19th Century". In 1964 he became professor for Romance studies at the TU Berlin , in 1965 at the University of Marburg and in 1971 at the University of Heidelberg . He stayed here until his retirement in 1998.

Heitmann was co-editor of the specialist journals Archive for the Study of Modern Languages and Southeast Research, as well as the Studia Romanica series of specialist books .

The Universities of Bucharest and Galati awarded him an honorary doctorate. He was an honorary member of the Romanian Writers' Union and the Romanian Academy.
