Klaus Hennig (physicist, 1934)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Klaus Hennig (born December 16, 1934 in Plauen ) is a German physicist .

Life

Klaus Hennig studied applied mechanics at the Technical University in Dresden from 1956 to 1962 and then worked at the Central Institute for Mathematics and Mechanics of the German Academy of Sciences in Berlin , later the Academy of Sciences of the GDR (AdW), where he became head of department in 1974.
In 1976 he was appointed Professor of Solid Mechanics and Deputy Director of the Central Institute for Mathematics and Mechanics . The director of the institute was the mathematician Klaus Matthes .

After the previous Central Institute for Mathematics and Mechanics was split up into two independent institutes, Klaus Hennig was appointed director of the newly founded Institute for Mechanics in January 1981 ; he held this position until 1986. His membership in the Academy of Sciences of the GDR existed from 1982 to 1992.

In February 1987, Klaus Hennig used a business trip to stay in the Federal Republic of Germany . After a few weeks, however, he returned to the GDR via Vienna . The brief escape had no consequences for him. He remained in office and dignity.

Hennig has been a member of the Leibniz Society for Science in Berlin since 1993 .

His research areas were solid mechanics and the reliability of mechanical systems.
