Athletic career

Klaus Hoffmann began his career as a football player as a teenager at SG Genossenschaften Halle , from which the company sports association (BSG) Empor Halle developed in 1951 . In 1952 he achieved promotion to the third-class Halle district league with the BSG Empor . After the end of the 1953/54 season, Empor Halle Hoffmann delegated to the GDR upper division Sportclub Chemie Halle-Leuna.

Hoffmann played his first league game on September 26, 1954 as a substitute. Overall, he was used in the 1954/55 season in 16 point games, ten times he was a defender in the starting line-up. At the end of the season Halle had to relegate to the GDR league . In autumn 1955, a transition round was held in GDR football in order to play in the calendar year rhythm in future. While Hoffmann was not used in this round, he played 25 of the 26 point games in the 1956 league season and was thus significantly involved in the immediate resurgence of Halle. The SC Chemie ended the game year by winning the GDR soccer cup. In the final against ZASK Vorwärts Berlin (2: 1) Hoffmann was used in the central defense.

In the league seasons 1957 and 1958 Hoffmann was able to consolidate his position as a regular player, played all 26 point games in 1957 and only missed three league games in 1958. During the 1958 season, the SC Chemie Halle-Leuna merged with the SC Wissenschaft Halle and acted as SC Chemie Halle in the future. At the end of the season, the SC had to relegate again to the GDR league. Again the immediate return to the league succeeded, Hoffmann was also one of the driving forces with 25 of 26 point games. In the following two seasons he was able to maintain his regular place and was only missing in a point game in 1960. In 1961/62 39 league games were played in one season, as GDR football returned to the summer-spring rhythm of the game. At the end of the season there was the final of the GDR Cup, which the Halle team won again. Again with Hoffmann in the central defense, this time SC Dynamo Berlin was defeated 3-1.

In 1962/63 Hoffmann was used again in all 26 league matches, and he also played both games in the 1962/63 European Cup Winners' Cup against OFK Belgrade (0: 2, 3: 3). Hoffmann played his last league season in 1963/64. He played all 13 point games in the first half of the season, after which he was no longer used in the major league. The season ended with the relegation of SC Chemie Halle. In the GDR league season 1964/65 Hoffmann returned to the first team and helped the Hallens with 27 appearances in 30 league games for the third time to immediate promotion. Then he finally ended his career in higher-class football. When Hallesche FC Chemie was founded in 1966, Hoffmann was elected to the club's board. In 1969 he became team leader of the HFC league team.
