Klaus Jansen (Abbot)

Klaus Jansen OCSO (born March 31, 1922 in Neuss ; † February 9, 2008 ) was abbot of the Cistercian monastery in Engelszell in Upper Austria .

Life

As Heinrich Jansen was born in Neuss, he was from 1949 to 1956 sexton at St. Mary's in Neuss. He then entered on August 20, 1958 with the religious name Klaus Maria in honor of Niklaus von Flüe with the Cistercians of strict observance ( Trappists ) of the Mariawald Abbey near Heimbach . After training within the order and studying theology, he was ordained a priest on August 20, 1966 and celebrated his homeland prime on September 4, 1966 in St. Marien .

In 1982 Father Klaus was appointed Apostolic Administrator of the Engelszell Abbey by the Holy See in Rome . The following year the convent of Engelszell Abbey elected him abbot for six years. During his term of office, extensive renovation work was carried out on the monastery buildings. He also made successful efforts to develop Engelszell Abbey into a spiritual center for the Diocese of Linz . He was also in great demand as a retreat master and spiritual guide in the entire German-speaking area.

After leaving the office of abbot, Father Klaus returned to Germany and worked in the field of pilgrimage pastoral care in Kevelaer .

Father Klaus spent his last years in his home monastery in Mariawald.
